CAMBRIDGE FOLK FESTIVAL

The Festival is renowned for its eclectic mix of music and a wide definition of what might be considered folk. The best traditional folk artists from the UK and Ireland rub shoulders with more contemporary acts, the finest American country, blues and roots artists, acclaimed singer songwriters and even the odd pop star. Bluegrass, gospel, cajun, zydeco, jazz, world, klezmer and a ceilidh are also regular features. The line up has reflected the many changes in the music scene from the 60s to the present and is always a hotbed mix of the old and the new.

SHEPRETH WILDLIFE PARK

The Wildlife Park first started as a private wild animal sanctuary in 1979, when a young injured jackdaw was brought to us to look after. 'Jack' recovered and soon became one of the family. During that time we adopted many other injured victims and hand reared countless orphaned animals such as foxes, hedgehogs, rabbits, deer, polecats, bats, monkeys, owls, kestrels, sparrowhawks, swans, doves, ducks and many other species of birds.

ELY CATHEDRAL

The cathedral built from stone quarried from Barnack in Peterborough, whose lands included the quarries, for 8000 eels a year, with decorative elements carved from Purbeck Marble and local clunch (a traditional building material). The plan of the building is cruciform (cross-shaped), with an additional transept at the western end. The total length is 537 feet (163.7 m), and the nave at over 75 m long (250 ft) remains one of the longest in Britain. The west tower is 66m high (215 ft). The unique Octagon 'Lantern Tower' is 23 m (74 ft) wide and is 52 m (170 ft) high. Internally, from the floor to the central roof boss the lantern is 43 m (142 ft) high.
